“Beauty of the Lakes”

Sheila is a frequent visitor to the lake District.

Here she enjoys walking in the fells, taking plenty of photographs with which to work her magic back in her studio.

The Lake District landscape provides endless inspiration for Sheila’s work.

The Beauty of the Lakes provides all the elements that she loves painting: big skies, dramatic mountains, woodlands and wildflowers. Her landscape paintings are true to the essence of the scenery but painted in a slightly abstract style.

She paints mainly in oils - enjoying the way the paint dries slowly, allowing her to mix colour and develop texture. She often works quickly - using wet on wet technique.  Mark making is important in her style of painting and she uses both palette knife and brushes to create pattern within her paintings

Sheila rarely paints with pure colour – preferring colour mixing.  Close inspection will show that her blue skies are a blend of cobalt, ceruleum, ultramarine, violet and other shades.

When painting mountains - Sheila blends colours that appear naturally on the landscape:  mixing yellow green with purple, raw sienna and venetian red to create the perfect hue of distant hills.
