Haydn Morris Exhibition - Edge of the Fells

Haydn’s focus in this exhibition is Cumbria and the Scottish Islands, where he expresses the excitement he feels about places he knows well, from sea shore to mountain peak. He is inspired not only by nature, but by man’s involvement with it:

“Some of the exhibition explores the ‘Edge of the Fell’, a rich and varied landscape, where cultivated farmland meets open country. Here are many signs of man’s activities from days when more people worked the land – ancient walls, barns, sheepfolds and trackways. Farming has changed and today the fell edge is gradually being reclaimed by nature.” - Haydn Morris

Haydn specialises in landscape painting, mostly in oils and watercolour. His former career in rural planning gave him an understanding and love of the countryside, which offers an infinite variety of subjects for painting.

He has painted seriously since 2001, exhibiting widely in the North of England. His work is represented in private collections in the UK, France, USA, New Zealand and Australia.

“For me, atmosphere is more important than too much detail. Leaving something to the imagination may stimulate you to engage with the work more closely and I hope enjoy it more too.” - Haydn Morris

Another reason for Haydn’s impressionist approach is that he wants to create an interesting composition in an abstract sense – through an appealing arrangement of colours, lines, tones and textures.

“I sometimes move things around a little and perhaps change or exaggerate the colours – but I always aim to express the atmosphere and sense of place which I experienced.” - Haydn Morris
