Hello, World!
Sam Cartman Solo Exhibition - March - April 2025
We are delighted to welcome Sam Cartman to the gallery with an outstanding collection of 43 paintings. Sam has a Cumbrian connection through his training at the Carlisle College of Art, and then spent a number of years in Scotland, before moving back to his home county of Shropshire. He has exhibited widely across the UK and has work in collections around the world.
Sam’s paintings feature bold composition, strong lines and a mostly muted colour palette, sometimes punctuated with strong blues, oranges and yellows. Sam’s work is initially a response to being in landscape, and shaped by the experience of being in a certian place at a certain time in his own life, however this only serves as a starting point, giving the painting an initial framework. Once he is in the studio the paintings themselves evolve in their own right, and are left open for the viewer to engage with and interpret through their own lens, making their own connections to places and experiences. In the Artist’s words “ The way I make things is who I am , what I paint is where I was, what you see is what you think”. You can view Sam’s work here online or by visiting the gallery.
Northern Lights Gallery Exhibitions 2024
Every few months our Blencathra Gallery will exhibit one of our talented artists. They’ll display a selection of work that focuses on the fells surrounding Keswick or the way they are inspired by the beauty of the nature surrounding us.
