After teaching Art & Design for 25 years Gill retired to Keswick in 2001. Having later moved to Borrowdale, an accident on the fells saw Gill confined to a wheelchair for six weeks. Painting became her therapy and Gill has not stopped since.

Gill’s inspiration is the scenery around her and she is fascinated by both the structure of the mountains and the way in which they have been formed. The rocky crags, the gulleys, the eroded edges and the slopes clothed in bracken and heather all feature in Gill’s work.

In her current work Gill uses watercolours and a fine ink pen, relief mounting the pictures on reclaimed roof slates of beautiful Borrowdale slate. The original nail holes can be used to wall hang the pictures, or they can be displayed on the stand provided.
