Margaret pent her childhood in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales on the farm that her family had worked for four generations. Encouraged by teachers and influenced by her father, an amateur water-colourist, Margaret pursued an education in art. She continued to draw and paint whilst raising her family of four children and it was during this period that she became interested in etching.
Margaret is strongly influenced by her immediate surroundings. Her work is inspired by the natural landscape, in particular the western dales where she now lives. Attracted by the wild slopes of the Howgill fells and the open moorland above Dent, she returns to these places that inspire her work. Her attachment to them plays a central role in the creative process.
